When connected to the NoMachine server on macOS from the Windows client, I get the error “The selected movie won’t play on your display” when trying to play music via the Music app to my new Apple HomePod Mini. Depending on the view I’m in in the music app, I can continue playing for either the whole album or just one track by dismissing the error and clicking the play button.

I’m not sure whose responsibility this error is to fix, but I think it’s related to the answer discussed in the following discussion, possibly the DisplayLink module or a similar technology used by NoMachine.

    My setup
    macOS 11.2
    Window 10 Education 1909 18363.1316
    NoMachine 7.1.3 (both systems)

It’s probably the system which prevents the recording of the content potentially covered by copyright.

Yes, but this error only occurs when connected using NoMachine. I can play the same music to my HomePod Mini, without any errors, if I am not connected with NoMachine.

As soon as the screen is forwarded (not just with NoMachine, also macOS’s own remote desktop tool) and you can try with others, DRM protection is triggered. NoMachine can’t avoid this.

Thanks Britgirl, that’s helpful to know. I’ll work around it by streaming from my iDevices instead of my Mac.
