    Hello.

I’m getting “Authentication error, please try again” error when trying to change server settings on local machine. Also I can’t close app and reinstall didn’t help. nxerror.log contains many errors like “Process: WARNING! Process creation failed for ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\\bin\\nxexec’. 13472 15876 12:07:53 282.718 Process: WARNING! Error is 740 requested operation requires elevation”. NoMachine free v6.8.1, Windows 10.

Please, open the folder %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\NoMachine\bin\, right-click on file nxexec.exe, choose “Properties” from the context menu, select the Security pane and verify that users have permission to Read and Execute.

If you prefer the command line, run a Command Prompt and type the command icacls "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\NoMachine\bin\nxexec.exe"

I checked rights and users have these permissions.

I get the same behavior if “Run this program as an administrator” is checked in the Compatibility pane of nxexec.exe. Is it your case?

    Would you send to forum(at)nomachine(dot)com:

    • The output of command icacls “%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\NoMachine\bin\nxexec.exe”
    • An image of the Security pane of nxexec.exe
    • A zip archive of folder %USERPROFILE%\.nx

Removing “Run this program as an administrator” from nxexec.exe helped a bit, error in logs is gone, but main issue still not solved. I’ve sent requested screenshots and data.

Maybe we have two different issue.

Is the host joined to a domain?

What account type is the desktop owner account when you try to change settings (local normal, local administrator, domain normal, domain administrator)?

What exactly happens when you try to change settings? Does a window show up, requiring Administrator credentials? If so, what type of Administrator account you try to use (local administrator, domain administrator)?

I’m using domain normal account which has local administrator rights on this pc and when I try to change settings, I see a small warning message right above padlock icon, which is used to unlock settings. There are no new windows.

We provided a debug version of the library libnx.dll and have since received the logs.
