I use NoMachine to connect from my Windows 11 (player) to a remote nxserver on ubuntu desktop (NoMachine 7.6.2_4).

It worked perfectly until a couple of weeks ago, when the connection crashed. Now, I am able to connect to the remote server, but a black screen is all I can get.

I tried to reboot the NX server and the server machine. I tried to reinstall the nx server (apt purge). No success.

    Can someone help?

If this is a headless Linux machine, please take a look at his article, point 3 in particular:

Connecting to Linux headless machines with NoMachine

A specific case which leads to black screen on Linux is when the X server is running but it is not rendering. In this case NoMachine doesn’t use its own virtual display because it detects that the X server running, so you need to turn back on NoMachine’s virtual display. I say “turn back on” because before the system crashed (we can’t be sure if it was the actual connection that crashed), NoMachine was running fine.

Thank you. THis is not a headless Linux machine.

I was able to solve the problem by logging in locally on the machine and have a complete removal of the package, deleting all the local files (in /usr/NX and in .nx in the home). I then reinstalled the package and it worked.

Previously I connected only remotely and did not delete the local files. Unsure of which one did make the difference, I report them in case others have the same issue.

Thanks for letting us know anyway, I’m glad a clean reinstall fixed the problem. If it happens again, let us know.
