Hello. I set up NoMachine on my headless server via SSH and then, when I wanted to connect, it just showed black screen with normal Linux cursor (no cross).

Before NoMachine, I used RDP which…worked but it wasn’t good by any means. It required another login after I connected with username and password and I guess, it was using it’s own UI (not one that comes with latest Ubuntu).

To see my situation better, I’m providing you some detailed info:
    – I’m using public private key pair to login into SSH

    – UFW is installed on the server (which shouldn’t be a problem because NoMachine bypassing firewalls by default)

    – I’m connecting from Windows 10 machine, locally, to the Ubuntu 20.04.

PS: While installing Ubuntu, no special actions has been taken, just casual, default installation that already comes with UI.

    Hi Pheggas,

Did you had a chance to try what we suggest in this article How to solve black screen on Linux headless machines ?

I would like to try second option (Setup Xorg for working in headless mode ) but I’m not sure if it’s not only for devices with Nvidia gpu. On my server, there is only integrated gpu so it won’t work.

    Hi Pheggas,

In point 2. you can find 3 alternative solutions. So if you don’t have the possibility to try 2.1, you can maybe try 2.2 or 2.3? For these Nvidia GPU is not required neither for options 1 and 3.  Hope this helps 🙂
