I wanted to know if NoMachine will work with Canonical Multipass (a lightweight Ubuntu VM)?  Multipass itself only provides a terminal environment.  However, I have installed Ubuntu desktop and RDP on the VM and successfully ran a desktop from my Mac – the problem is that it is extremely slow (unusable).  Hence, I wanted to try NoMachine – I have installed NoMachine both on the VM and my Mac.  However, I cannot successfully connect – I  just get a black screen which terminates after about 10 seconds.  I was just wondering if anyone had tried this with Multipass and had any success?

What Ubuntu desktop environment is installed in that VM? NoMachine can install in any VM, what’s important is that there is a desktop environment running there.

You can check with grep ^Exec /usr/share/xsessions/*

    Take a look at:

How to run a virtual desktop environment on Linux different from the default one with NoMachine

to know how to set the right desktop.

Sorry for the slow follow-up, but I wanted to thank you Britgirl.

I still could not get the Ubuntu Desktop to run successfully; however, it may just have been a size/memory issue as I was able to get other lighter desktops to work just fine.

    Thanks again.
