Am running 7.6.2 (free) and am trying to connect from a Linux Mint 20.1 machine to a Manjaro 21.0.5 machine. The Mint machine is running Cinnamon, the Manjaro is running Gnome.

The Mint machine finds the Manjaro machine within the NX Client but after attempting to connect, it responds with “Authentication failed. Please try again.”Am using password authentication.

If I try to go from the Manjaro machine to the Mint machine, I get the same behavior.

The Mint machine has the firewall enabled, but the Manjaro doesn’t. After turning off the firewall, I get the same behavior in either direction.

I tried setting up a test user, with the same results. I have tried with both wired and Wifi.

    • NoMachine 7.6.2 (same version on both sides)
    • Server is on Manjaro 31.0.5 Gnome
    • Client is on Mint 20.1 Cinnamon
    • Firewall is off on both sides.
    • nxd.log file shows the connection to the server (Manjaro) and no errors.
    • I have tried with both wired and wireless and tried making the Mint box be the server.

As from the error message you mentioned in NoMachine “Authentication failed.” it looks that you did user wrong host username and password.

Please see following article Username formats supported to log-in to NoMachine by password authentication.

It turns out that the issue was the user name is case sensitive. Once I used the correct case, it worked.
