Running 5.0.43 headless on a Slackware system, with the built in X-server.

I can’t get YouTube videos to play.  I see the “spinning circle” and get the first few seconds of sound, which is extremely garbled, like it’s underwater.  Then everything freezes up for a few minutes.

I’ve tried disabling the various quality/compression options but they don’t seem to make any difference.

    Cheers.

    Hi Eddie,

we will be checking. Can you tell us about the version of Slackware and of your browser? Does it occur with a different browser, if you have any other installed?

It’s the latest Slackware, 14.1 and Firefox 38.2.1 with flashplayer-plugin-11.2.202.521.

Tried also with SeaMonkey which did a little better with the sound, but still no picture and Konquerer which did no better.

    Cheers.

If the videos are trying to play in lightweight mode, it won’t work.  What you see is the first few frames will paint and the sound will get choppy and then the whole thing will eventually stop playing.

We reproduced the issue in our labs. Here is the relevant Trouble Report:

As a workaround, installing pulseaudio should do the trick.

    Thanks for the report!
