I’m using NoMachine NX 4.2.26 to connect to my windows 8 laptop at home and the performance is more sluggish than TightVNC.  The one main thing I noticed is that I tend to use 8 bit colors when I connect remotely w/ TightVNC, is there an option to do the same w/ NX?

    Hello ycavan

there is no switch to automatically set depth to 8 bit, but you can tweak the display setting in order to get a better badwidth/CPU tradeoff.

Within a running remote session, press Ctrl+Alt+0 to get the menu, then navigate to “Display”, “Change settings”. Two things you can try – for example – are:

    – The “Quality” slider
    – The “Disable client-side image post processing” box
