I use NoMachine (NM) to remote into my mac at the office, and I use Microsoft Remote Desktop (MRD) to remote into Windows machines at work. I do all this from my macbook air. I’ve noticed that when I use MRD, dragging seems much more responsive and natural than on NoMachine. MRD and NM both have different approach to the cursor display when dragging.

For MRD, the cursor shown is always the local one. For example, if I click and drag a window, the cursor shown will be the exact local movement of my cursor, but the dragged content might not be fully synced during the movement.

For NM, the cursor shown is mostly the local one, but is masked to show the remote cursor when clicking and dragging. This feels unresponsive and almost dizzying.

Would it be possible to have the option to always show the local cursor, even when dragging? Even if this keeps the remote cursor visible during dragging, I feel this would feel more responsive than the current implementation.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. This has been discussed a couple of times on the forums already.
When an object is dragged in the NoMachine session, the local cursor is locked to the remote cursor’s position, so that the dragged object will not lag behind the cursor. We understand that it can be preferable to not lock the cursor so we implemented an extra option which allows the display server to disable the automatic locking of the cursor.
On the server, in the node.cfg set:

    DisplayServerExtraOptions “-nocursorlock”

Thanks! I had trouble at first getting it to work because the apostrophes were ” instead of  “.

Does activating this interfere with other DisplayServerExtraOptions enabled, if so, is there a specific way to have multiple DisplayServerExtraOptions enabled at the same time?

    Thanks a lot again!

No it doesn’t interfere with other DisplayServerExtraOptions enabled. For the extra options you can us DisplayServerExtraOptions "-option1 -option2 -option 3"

Great, thanks a lot it works great! You should consider having this option accessible from the NoMachine preferences. It feels incredibly more responsive.
