An odd problem this one.  I just upgraded to NoMachine 4.4.1 and something odd is happening.  My menu bar has gone black, and I can no longer see most of what is displayed there.  This is not Yosemite’s “Dark Mode” being turned on – I checked – “Dark Mode” is off and toggling it has no effect.  It only happens when I connect using NoMachine.  If I connect independently using Screen Sharing everything is fine.  But if I connect with NoMachine, and then connect simultaneously with Screen Sharing, the menu bar is black.

    Any suggestions, anyone?

Hi. We’re trying to reproduce this issue in our labs. Could you give us more details about your Mac? Do you see the black menu bar only through the NoMachine session, or also locally on Mac?
It would be great if you could send a screenshot and the output of the command “system_profiler -detailLevel mini” to issues[at]nomachine[dot]com

    Hi.
We’ve reproduced the black bar issue in our labs on a Mac mini without a monitor attached. Once the monitor was connected again, the issue disappeared. May this be your case?

This is exactly the case. This happens still in version 4.5. The Mac mini is often used as a server in the network and usually in this case has no attached monitor. NoMachine has nice functions but is useless in this case as one cannot read the menu bar. Is there a workaround for this bug?

Aikie, unluckily there is nothing we can do as this problem seems to be quite common on Yosemite when a monitor is not attached.
I didn’t find an official report, but these threads give some information about it:
