I have installed free version 4.6.16_1 of NoMachine server amd64 on 64 bits Linux Kubuntu 15.04 with Plasma5 desktop and free NoMachine client on 64 bits Windows 7. There was the only installer for Windows and because it appeared in c:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\ I guess it is 32 bits application. Problem: after installation monitor icon (!M) did not show up in Windows system tray. In the forum

    https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?67997-System-Tray

    I found following suggestion

For Skype icon to show in system tray on 64bit systems: sudo apt-get install sni-qt:i386

    An explanation was in: http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2014/06/where-are-my-systray-icons/

    Qt4: needs sni-qt

After running bold command Monitor icon showed up in the system tray. Could you account for this dependency?

    Hi oleg.
Thank you for taking the time to report this. In order to start the investigation, could you please clarify on which OS the tray icon is not visible? You initially said it was on Windows, but the solution you’ve tried is related to Linux.

As for the specific solution, we don’t use system’s Qt so sni-qt (which is a plugin) is not loaded in our library. Probably installing it caused a change in the system that indirectly affected NoMachine’s icon. We’ve our own implementation of Status Notifier Items interface, so when a system tray is not available we use DBUS to create the menu in Indicator.

    Hi Tor,

Let me reproduce the problem installing NoMachine on a different PC with Kubuntu 15.04. Am I right that the icon should be visible on a client system tray?

    Thanks,

    Oleg

I cannot reproduce this problem with the fresh installation which is consistent with your arguments. I must apologize I might overlooked the icon on my client PC. I take this opportunity to thank the team of NoMachine developers. I tried different remote desktop packages to connect a windows machine with a Linux one. I’ve tried different flavor of VNC, xRDP etc. NoMachine is the best! It outperforms other applications, both in terms of performance and the convenience of the interface. This is the only remote desktop which can manage heavy Linux desktops such as Unity and Plasma. Unfortunately I just occasionally met reference to NoMachine in one of xRDP forums. One question. Does free version support file transfer? I do not see corresponding items in the Monitor menu.

    Many thanks,

    Oleg

    Hey Oleg!
I’m happy you’ve sorted it out. While checking your report we’ve found some things not working as expected on Plasma 5, so we’re enhancing the support for that environment.
As for file transfer, it is supported on all NoMachine products. You can see the file transfer menu item only when someone connects to the server. More information here:

At last, thank you for your positive comments! We all at NoMachine work hard to make users happy. Welcome to the family. 😉
