    Hi NoMachine,

We are currently doing an internet review of our local admin accounts and the ‘nx’ user account has shown up on PCs where NoMachine is in use.

I understand that this user account is important for NoMachine, but my searching couldn’t confirm whether or not it needed to be a local administrator.

Would you be able to confirm if this is the case or if we can remove admin privileges?

    Thanks,
    Shane

This question has been asked a couple of times in this forum and they point to the article in our knowledge base 🙂

    Reserved names for NoMachine programs
    https://www.nomachine.com/AR01N00871

“the ‘nx’ and ‘NX’ names are reserved and cannot be used on the system for different purposes than NoMachine itself…..The nx account cannot be deleted from the system or the NoMachine server will be no longer operational.”

Hi there, thanks for the response. I’ve looked over that article before as well as any questions I could find here in the forums related to the nx user account. I know it’s important for NoMachine to function, but I couldn’t find any clear answer on whether or not it specifically needed to be a local administrator.

Admin privileges cannot be removed the user ‘nx’ otherwise NoMachine won’t function correctly. We’ve updated the article to make this clear.

Hi, that is good to know, thank you for the confirmation and great to hear the documentation has been updated also.

    Thanks for the help!
