I have the free version of NX Server from the file is ‘nomachine_5.0.43_1_x86_64.tar’ on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS.  It is running on a laptop.  When I connect to it from NX client, it connects to the same desktop session that is visible on the laptop screen.  The problem is that the laptop blanks the screen after there is no activity.  In order to continue working, I have to move the mouse on the laptop.  Then the screen in the NX client becomes accessible.

Ideally, I would like to connect to a new desktop session, not the one being seen on the laptop’s screen.  Then the screen would not go blank, and I could have multiple sessions if I want.  How can I accomplish this?

You need a product with the virtual desktop functionality which allows individual multiple Linux desktops to run on the same host. The free NoMachine is for access to the physical display.

    Try the Workstation package.
