Using XCP-NG and Xen Orchestra (XO) running Ubuntu and RHEL guests. XO has a built in web-based console which supports a limited number of display resolutions. Is there any way I can run a single NX instance on these Linux guests that is not limited by the XO console video limitations.

For what it’s worth, I’ve also run into the similar problems with hyper-v and vmware console display apps.

    Hi ricky222,

this can be achieved with the NoMachine Workstation. With Workstation, virtual sessions are not limited by the set of resolutions available to the physical display.
You can find more information about the product here: https://www.nomachine.com/product&p=NoMachine%20Workstation.

I assume you have not tried it out yet. You can do it for free, during 30 days (no strings attached 😉 ), to see if it meets all your requirements: https://www.nomachine.com/download/download&id=25

Cool. We have licenses for NoMachine Enterprise Desktop which as I look at the website is not the same thing. 🙁

Since these are dedicated use VM’s for a single person the multiple virtual sessions is not really useful, I don’t think. I need to check in with the user on that. I will admit to a frustration that a simple virtual session is not readily available out-of-the-box but I guess as an artifact of GUI environments being tightly bound to a graphics display card.

    Hi @ricky222,

Yes, they are not the same. NoMachine Enterprise Desktop supports only a connection to the host physical desktop. If you need to create a virtual desktop you should upgrade your subscription to NoMachine Workstation Single.
NoMachine Workstation supports up to 4 virtual desktops and connections to the physical desktop. The server administrator can limit the number of virtual desktops to 1, and in that case, only one virtual desktop can be created. More information about how to configure NoMachine Workstation can be found here: https://knowledgebase.nomachine.com/DT11R00174.

You can contact NoMachine sales for a possible upgrade of your active EDS subscription to Workstation here: https://www.nomachine.com/contact-request
