You need a desktop environment installed in order to be able to use NoMachine. If you remove the Graphical Interface, NoMachine can’t run a graphical remote session.
As stated here: https://www.nomachine.com/DT02O00124
Software requirements
A desktop environment must already be installed. This applies also to headless Linux machines. If you don’t want to use Gnome, you can use KDE, LXDE, XFCE or another if you prefer.
BritgirlKeymasterHi cosuan, what you need is this Feature Request which is currently being implemented.

Please sign up to receive notification of when it has been released.
BritgirlKeymasterHi, the correct behaviour is:
Click Yes if you want to close the NoMachine app, and upon the next Windows session, everything will be started up again.
Click No if you want to close the NX services and at next reboot, you prefer to restart NoMachine manually.
So you have understood correctly it would seem 🙂 However, selecting either requires Administrator rights and the system will ask you to enter your Windows account credentials. Do you not see the box asking you to enter admin credentials?
Please tell us the Windows version you are using. This will be useful to be able to investigate whether services are being restarted within the same session rather than at start-up.
BritgirlKeymaster@kosak @graphixillusion, please check your inbox. We have sent you a link to the patched package for testing.
BritgirlKeymasterThat seems very odd. The NoMachine Installer auto-detects the system language. Can you show us a screenshot of what you see once NoMachine has been installed? What OS are you installing on?
BritgirlKeymasterLet’s check some other details first (you may have already checked this, I’m not sure):
1) https://www.nomachine.com/getting-started-with-nomachine#internet
Figs 9 and 10 can show you which IP you should be using to connect from the external network.
Quoting from the guide: “NoMachine will display it like this: nx://151.1.192.128:29382. Write this information down. If a port number is not displayed next to the external IP, NoMachine has detected that you don’t need it in the next phase.”There is the possibility that you have a double NAT in place, but this would mean intervening on both routers. There is a similar topic here: https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/error-138-cant-connect-to-office-computer-from-home
NoMachine Network, the upcoming feature, would resolve this problem. It would avoid having to know your computer’s public-facing IP address and eliminate the need to configure port-forwarding on the router.
BritgirlKeymasterHi, sorry to hear you’re having problems.
Are you able to connect from the Linux machine to your Mac? Is the Linux server behind an office or uni router? Please consult this article for trouble-shooting you should read this article here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR11L00827 and let us know.
BritgirlKeymasterOne user recently reported that by changing the following setting in the nvidia configuration on the client side (running Linux Mint Tessa), intense flickering disappeared. This would reinforce our findings that this is not a bug in the NoMachine software as already suggested by Fra81.
Open Nvdia X Server settings -> X Screen 0 -> OpenGL Settings, and uncheck “Allow Flipping.”
BritgirlKeymasterThis is a duplicate, please see here: https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/the-connection-with-the-server-was-shut-down
BritgirlKeymasterThanks for letting us know. We’ll check it in preparation for supporting the official version when Apple releases it.
Here are some further notes about our policies for supporting pre-release or beta versions of supported operating systems: https://www.nomachine.com/AR03E00450
BritgirlKeymasterHi, we’ve never come across this before, and unfortunately we don’t have access to the hardware you are using, so any attempt to reproduce on the fly hasn’t been successful with our own set-ups. You could enable debug, reproduce the issue again and send us the logs, but it would probably be quicker if we send you a debug package to help us investigate. Would you be able to do this?
BritgirlKeymasterFrom the error message it appears the password is wrong. Can you please verify that your password is entered correctly, for example by writing it in a clear input field momentarily within the NoMachine app? It could possibly be a problem with interpreting some characters which is causing the wrong password to be sent.
BritgirlKeymasterIt’s not clear from what you’ve written what is actually missing. Can you send us a screenshot of the weird behaviour you are seeing?
BritgirlKeymasterNoMachine can connect over any network to the remote PC provided you know its IP address, not just on LAN. With the release of NoMachine Network the need for knowing the IP address will be removed, giving users two ways to connect. Is this perhaps what you are referring to?
