I am pleased to report that bug report #32063 has been corrected, and that the new release today for android, v8.4.2, which is a consistent version number with the Linux server I have on my home machine, works flawlessly as best I can tell.  Even though it had been over 2 years since I filed this bug report, it is worth the wait since it works so well as an android app on my Chromebook(s).  Even though I can run the NoMachine client as a Linux app on my Chromebook, the Android version works much better and I can take advantage of the tablet features in addition to the laptop features (works with all features).  The sound plays from the server fine, and I will soon be testing the data transfer features.  All-in-all, a win-win situation, and I highly recommend using this new version on Chromebooks when a Linux desktop (or even Windows desktop) is needed.

See a submital I just made.  If your Chromebook supports Linux (newer ones do), then install NoMachine for Linux in this VM.  Then you can connect to remote servers perfectly just as if it were a Linux player.  Works great.
