    @graywolf

is this going to make it into the next stable release? or will I always have to enable this option in the node.cfg ?

    halleluya….

I finally got it to work. Not sure why it didn’t work in 5.1.16 but in 5.1.22 it works.

I am able to ctrl+drag with the blue line and drag scenes around in the story board. So far everything seems to be working as expected.

    question:

is this going to make it into the next stable release? or will I always have to enable this option in the node.cfg ?

    Thanks,

By the way, I have tested it on two different macs. one is a mac mini and the other one is mac book pro.

    Both produce the same results.

    Hi graywolf,

we are making some progress but still no lock.

this time I was able to connect to the mac but I got a message “the server was unable to make the local display available or access to the local display is disabled”

if I comment out the DisplayServerExtraOptions “-oldeventapi 0” and restart the nx service, then it connects without any issues but then ctrl+drag is still not working.

I am wondering if the other guys on this thread made any progress.

    ok thank you.

i’ll give it another try tonight and pay attentions to typos and formatting.

    @graywolf

    still no luck!

I added the line DisplayServerExtraOptions “-oldeventapi 0” to the node.cfg file, right under the commented line

    #DisplayServerExtraOptions “-nocomposite -noshpix”

    and restarted the nx service.

this time the service won’t even start up (the NoMachine icon at the top bar did not show up).

when I try to connect i get “no sessions available”

can you guys provide screen shots of what exactly we need to change.

    thanks,

    Hi Britgirl,

I finally installed the RC version 5.1.16 and followed the instructions on the email you sent me. However, sadly none of the issues have been fixed.

    1. CTRL + drag is still not working.

    2. in the storyboard designer, it is still impossible to drag and move a view controller once it was dropped into the scene.

    3. quick documentation , also known as the ? mark, is invoked when you hold down option and hover over a type or a member. That only works when xcode loses focus. then once it regain focus the + sign never turns into the ? when you hold the Option key (or ALT on windows).

In the instructions you said to install the RC version on the affected server. (the mac) but what about the PC.  Do I also need to update my PC (the client ).

Since these issues are show stoppers for me, I decided to buy a cheap KVM switch for now, which seems to work. However, I am still happy to help with testing.

    Best,

    UPDATE:

for the record, I plugged in a physical display, keyboard and mouse and then tried ctrl drag and it worked.

Therefore, this is certainly a bug with NoMachine.

Since many operations within Xcode can only be done using ctrl + drag, can this issue be flagged critical, unless there is a workaround.

    Thanks,

    Hi Tor,

Thank you for the quick reply, and sorry for my late response. Please find my answers below

    – NoMachine product and version on local and remote machine (free version, Workstation, etc).

Free version, v5.1.9 on both local and remote

    – Whether the problem arises connecting to a physical or a virtual display.

    Virtual (headless) mac mini

    – Remote and local Windows/Mac/Linux version (Windows XP/7/8, OS X 10.x, Ubuntu xyz, Mint x.y, etc.).

local is Windows 10, remote is OS X 10.11.3

    – The freeze occurs with any kind of files and sizes?

yes it does. I tried text files, images or other file types. the files were no larger than 1MB

    – Can you check if drag&drop file transfer works correctly?

Drag and drop works without any issues. I can transfer files from client to remote and vice versa.

    – Does client side OS report the NoMachine client as not responding, or can you interact with it normally? (e.g. open the menu while the remote session is frozen)

I can open the menu while the remote session is frozen, but if I move the mouse over to the client and click around, nothing happens.

    – This may be an issue with events, so can you please confirm all screen updates are frozen? (e.g. play a video before starting the file transfer)

video continued playing when session froze. I just couldn’t click or do anything beside, close the session and reconnect.

Here is what I have done so far.

    • I moved the quality bar all the way to the right.
    • I checked all the options on the right side in the display settings (multi-pass, network adaptive and buffering).
    • I also enabled “request frame rate” and set it to 60
    • and also “use GPU acceleration”
    • I changed the connection type from wifi to a local cross over cable connection.

To be honest, besides some noticeable performance improvements, I haven’t noticed any major video/image quality improvements.

When I tried to change the codec from vp8 to h264 , it switched it back to vp8. Is there any big difference between the two?

    thanks,

    Hi graywolf,

I went ahead and bought the headless HDMI and it indeed did the trick. I no longer see the trailing mouse pointer and it responds a lot faster now. However, even though my display settings are set to 1080p or (1920×1080) , in both the client and remote, the resolution does not look as crisp as it would if I connected my mac to a real display. Often times, I would see some blurriness for a split second and then it turns sharp again (similar to how images are loaded in the browser). For example, if I grab a window (like the Finder) and drag it around, while being dragged it tuns slightly blurry, and then when I let it go, it turns crisp again.

I am connected via a wifi so I am wondering if connecting my machine locally via a crossover cable can improve the overall crispness of the display. I tried playing around with the settings under Performance but didn’t really notice any major change so I left them all unchecked.

    awaiting your repose.

    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi

Thank you very much for the quick reply.

Since I am using a headless mac mini, I am certainly going to buy the headless hdmi dongle.

As for the key mapping, it would certainly be a nice feature since I use a PC keyboard and used to ctrl being the main modifier.

    Thank you.
