KeymasterUsers can refer to the following Trouble Report which we have opened for this issue:
Britgirl
KeymasterIt could be a problem with permissions. Can you send us the output of the following command?
ls -laR /etc/NX
You can fix permissions of files in the directory /etc/NX/server/localhost by executing:
sudo chmod 644 /etc/NX/server/localhost/*
If this doesn’t work, then send us what’s in /usr/NX/var. You can send it to issues[at]nomachine.com.

KeymasterFrom our analysis of this problem, it seems that NoMachine Beta is being used rather than the latest version (4.0.362). Check what version you are using and download the latest packages from our website.
You can also check the following topic which deals with issues reported on Mavericks.
https://www.nomachine.com/forums/forums/topic/maverick-not-supported
The topic was split into two individual issues which you can find linked there.

KeymasterNoMachine (the free version) lets you access the physical desktop remotely and requires that the Xserver is running. You can also use NoMachine on a headless Linux server (without the need of having the X server running), more instructions are available here:
https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00710
Any of the products from the Terminal Server range (e.g. Workstation or Terminal Server, https://www.nomachine.com/enterprise), allows to create virtual desktop sessions. In this case it’s not necessary to have the Xserver running.
The free 3, NX Free Edition, worked as a terminal server limited to 2 users. This functionality is no longer available in the free version.
